EcoMonitoring+ represents an evolution in the field of environmental monitoring of coastal and port areas, through the integration of Artificial Intelligence, Remote Sensing, GIS technologies, and Hydra® surface aquatic drones.

The project uses micro sentinel buoys transported by USVs to acquire water quality data at strategic points, with high frequency and minimal impact on port activities.

Artificial Intelligence forms the core of the system, enabling the automatic processing of data from sensors, satellite images, and environmental surveys. Through advanced algorithms it is possible to identify anomalies, support predictive analyses, generate timely alerts, and provide decision support tools for the sustainable management of monitored areas.

The main applications include:

  • Prevention of environmental and industrial critical events, through predictive analysis for the early identification of risk situations.
  • Intelligent management of port areas, through water quality and current monitoring and support for intervention planning.
  • Infrastructure protection, through continuous mapping of critical conditions and identification of environmental threat propagation scenarios.

EcoMonitoring+ contributes to making environmental monitoring more efficient, automated, and sustainable, offering an integrated view of environmental dynamics and concrete support for the protection of marine and port ecosystems. The project was presented within the framework of the RAISE program (Robotics and AI for Socio-economic Empowerment), promoted by the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) and funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU under the PNRR.
